Trump is not white knight
Dear Editor: Recently there have been a plethora of allegations against many men. They range from allegations of sexual abuse, verbal harassment to other related innuendoes. No man from any social group has been spared.
The range is from prominent businessmen, to athletic doctors, to the guy next door, to social media types, to prominent entertainment figures, yes, and even some politicians.
A while ago when the story broke on Bill Cosby and allegations were brought forward by his accusers, many of us probably were surprised — no shocked — that this TV portrayer of family values could possibly have strayed. The image of Cosby suddenly took a turn.
Here we are sometime later, with a similar scenario. Some of today’s moguls and pundits are making news on the harassment front. Allegations from the past to the present have been surfacing. Firings, suspensions, time-outs and the apologies are at the forefront. Each day there seems to be more exposure of wrong doings by men toward women. It seems that the door has been opened and that the traffic flow will grow.
Why now, you might ask? The jury is out on that one.
To stem this tide, along comes Donald J. Trump. He purports to be the “white knight” who will make things right and all will be well with the world. It is ironic that he can, and does, defend some of his minions as they too, face allegations of sexual harassment.
It brings to mind that like George Washington astride his White Horse statue, Trump, too is riding his white horse... a golf cart at Mar a Lago. It is between his to and fro trips to his estate that he tweets comments regarding various harassment issues with references to some of his minions.
However, he is very careful not to become totally and unconditionally supportive of these individuals and only repeats what they have said in their defense.
This attitude makes one wonder if it is because of his questionable past regarding the treatment of women and his comments toward them that has him worried that his turn might be coming.
After all, recently he stated, “I have the utmost respect for all women.” Actions speak louder than words as we know, as shown by video, that what he says is much less than true. In fact, his statement is more like an outright lie than anything else.
It seems that he is digging what might be termed as a “lie hole” deeper each day.
It makes me wonder as to how long the rank and file are going to buy into his phoney rhetoric. Ron Barillaro
