City protected during funeral

-

Dear Editor: Re: Cop funeral over the top, Herald, Letters, Nov. 24

First the facts, Mr. Deeprose: Global TV chose to televise the Celebration of Life for Const. John Davidson, a police officer with the Abbotsford Police Department.

When one phones 911 the operator answers: “Police, fire or ambulance.” Including the operator, these people are deemed first responders.

The thousands of first responders (active and retired) who attended were paying their respects, as fellow first responders, to Const. John Davidson, who was shot to death while performing his duties as a first responder. Perhaps you chose to turn off the television and missed the announcement that the City of Abbotsford was not without police protection during the celebration, including the marching of first responders.

The Vancouver Police Department asked for and provided VPD officers to cover the shifts of police in Abbotsford so that all Abbotsford police officers could attend.

Bob Rich, chief of Abbotsford Police Department, ensured the citizens of Abbotsford were protected. First responders serve and protect. Karen Hutchinson Osoyoos hatchery. This company is more concerned about the health of our Skaha Lake and our fish nursery than our own mayor and councillors.

The fry in Skaha Lake are the stock for future generations of a species under threat from many sides, salmon. Our lakes need to be protected not just for the fish. Water is the main ingredient in people.

There are definitely grey areas in the shades of green, lots and lots of grey areas. It is time to take a different approach to Skaha Marina. Lynn Crassweller Penticton
