Lots of grey in shades of green

-

Dear editor The City of Penticton’s 2018 budget is 50 shades of green.

For yet another tax increase, we are told we may get repairs done to city buildings. Sounds like there is green for the engagement team and downtown security, but what about residential and business security? We need lots of green to beautify the 300 block of Main Street. Is that essential work?

Let’s get our ducks in a row on Skaha Lake.

Trio got a $200,000 payout and got to keep the business until October 2018.

During Trio’s lease, the COP plans to start spending 1.7 million very, green bucks to “revitalize” the marina that no more than 60 local residents use for moorage.

To make the marina more “vibrant” more slips will be added, total slips 150 to 171. Does this sound familiar? It gets better. After October 2018 an expression of interest (EOI) can be put out for bids to run the marina, and no doubt Trio will bid. Why else would they hang around?

It’s disturbing to see the COP has again ignored key players – Penticton Indian Band, regional district, senior governments – all of them must be involved in any venture on that land.

It is even more disturbing that the COP seems to know nothing about the $15 million investment from Bonneville Power Authority in Oregon into the local fish
