Amazing friends want on The Amazing Race

- By ANDREA PEACOCK

A Kelowna woman and her best friend are vying for a spot on the upcoming season of Amazing Race Canada.

Kathy Zucchi, 59, and Carman Anne Schultz, 60, graduated high school together in Valemont, B.C., and have remained friends for 44 years.

Zucchi has lived in Kelowna for 25 years, while Schultz lives in Kamloops.

“We have a really good connection because we’ve known each other for so long,” said Zucchi.

The two women are hoping to travel the world together and compete in challenges to win the grand prize of $250,000.

“We wanted to have some adventure and challenge ourselves,” said Zucchi.

“We’re fans of the program, and we’re writing a new chapter in our lives right now.”

The theme of next season’s Amazing Race Canada is heroes, and anyone could nominate someone they view as a hero.

Zucchi and Schultz think of themselves more as unsung heroes.

“We don’t consider ourselves heroes, but there are a lot of unsung heroes all around us like moms and dads, and nurses and first responders, and all the people who don’t get recognition for the work they do on a daily basis,” said Zucchi.

Last season, dating couple Sam Lambert and Paul Mitskopoulos from Ontario won Amazing Race Canada.

No team from British Columbia has won the race so far in the five seasons of the show. Season six of Amazing Race Canada films next spring.
