Penticton Herald

Every contributor a vital part of the daily paper

Dear editor: Our teachers have given us the marvelous gift of being able to read the press, like the Penticton Herald and Penticton Western News, which chronicle so well the ongoing history for posterity as exemplified by the excellent coverage of the Skaha Lake Park saga.

Print allows the mind to read or re-read and chew on an idea, something that technology seems to be diminishing, creating a super-tough challenge for any newspaper to survive. Mr. Trump has proven that there is no such thing as a lone writer or reader.

Reading the first, last and middle sentence of a long article such as this is a guide on how to attack it.

All writers are contributors. They are a somebody, but if you stick your beak out into the public arena, be prepared to get it bent. Don't be surprised how the reader interprets or receives what you've written.

For example: The disheveled little lady found a tiny frog she named Rybet in a Tulameen mud puddle. She felt it was so lovable and nice looking that she gave it to her grandpa to keep him company and to talk to. Grandpa was thankful and thought they had much in common. Rybet was wrinkled like himself, didn't eat or talk much, chased bugs and sat a lot, but more importantly, the frog would let grandpa know when to croak.

I hope icon Tom Isherwood just rests his pen and doesn’t retire it. Happy new year to all! Joe Schwarz Penticton
