Lend a hand, don’t just criticize

Dear editor: Re: Bad sidewalks, we’re in Canada (Okanagan Weekend, Letters, Jan. 6)

Thank you so much for taking the time to express the thoughts of the silent majority, with regard to the perceived lack of sidewalk snow removal.

I am 79 years old and have lived at this property since 1990. I have done the very best to keep the sidewalks clear.

These past two or three weeks we have had an exceptional amount of snow and varying weather, ie. melting and freezing all in one day. I have never received any assistance or offers to assist even when my husband passed.

Do these people who complain ever take the time or wonder if the people or person living in the house may have a health problem, perhaps are in the hospital, or are just aging and having difficulty in keeping up? Perhaps a knock on the door and an offer to help could be a consideration.

We seem to have forgotten how to be good neighbors or caring citizens and can quickly find a reason to complain. Mr. Readman, the next time you pass a house that is not up to your expectations, think about why. Donna Lee Ortiz

Penticton snow, ice and rainy conditions, this is multiplied by two, so now the eight lights from just one vehicle really make it difficult for driving.

So, you silly people that drive with your fog lights on when there is no fog, take a hint. Check your lights before you start and turn those fog lights off. Frank Martens
