Finally some common sense
Dear editor: I see that city hall is following through on plans to relocate the tourist information centre back to its old home on Westminster Avnue.
This indicates that the city may finally be starting to use some common sense and exercising some concern for the spending of available tax dollars.
This decision follows two previous bad ones: the building of an unnecessary new tourist centre in the first place and allowing the casino to relocate on the SOEC grounds forcing the eviction of the tourist centre from the new building.
The cycle of poor decisions in this particular instance has been broken, which is encouraging.
It will be necessary, if the two new proposed ice sheets are approved, to decide where to site them.
The apparent preferred option seems to be on the SOEC grounds creating increased traffic and parking problems.
This defies all logic in view of the parking problems that now exist during SOEC events as a result of the casino displacing many former parking stalls.
If the casino had not gone there, it may have been feasible, but not desirable.
Under the current conditions, it is a nonstarter. Hopefully city hall continues the trend on common-sense decision making when this decision is made. Claude Bergman
