Summerland—Summerland council begins today with consideration of the 2018 grant-in-aid applications at the morning committee of the whole meeting.

In addition to wrestling with the Banks Crescent issue (see related story on A1), council then faces a packed agenda for the evening meeting.

Items of note include an application to rezone the 3.5acre lot at 5418 Nixon Rd. from agricultural small acreage to residential medium lot to allow for subdivision into 21 single-family lots.

Council will also reconsider the application for a nonfarm use within the Agricultural Land Reserve at 8115 McLachlan St.

Three development variance permit applications are on the agenda.

The first is an application to reduce the required yard setbacks to allow for the placement of a metal storage container to be used for self-serve fruit sales at 7305 Solly Rd. The second is to allow an accessory structure in the front yard at 4214 Williams Ave. And the third is to increase the height of a retaining wall and reduce the setback for a garage door at 126 Jewell Pl. to permit construction of a single-family dwelling.

In other business, staff will recommend support for an application to the UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund—Emergency Operations and Training for $10,575, and for the purchase of a threeyard loader with an attachable broom and high-dump bucket to be purchased for $225,715.

Council support is also sought for an application to the local government infrastructure planning grant program for a facility condition assessment of the Summerland Aquatic Centre and an application to the 2018-19 BikeBC program to develop a formal cycling network plan for Summerland.

The Friends of the Summerland Gardens Society is requesting a resolution of support from council in order to complete its application to the Okanagan Basin Water Board’s Water Conservation and Quality Improvement grant program.

Community development co-ordinator Angelique Wood will inform council that the firm Sahuri + Associates Architects Inc., is the successful proponent for architectural services for the Arts & Cultural Centre Renovation Plan.

The committee of the whole meeting begins at 9 a.m. and the regular evening meeting at 7 p.m. Both are held at the Municipal Hall, 13211 Henry Ave. and open to the public.
