Family Day fun offered for all in South Okanagan
Penticton, Summerland, Oliver and Osoyoos presenting free or affordable activities Monday
Families will have lots of options on Family Day. Most municipalities in the Okanagan are offering free or affordable activities on Monday, Feb. 12.
The city is teaming up with Spectra Venue Management, which manages the South Okanagan Events Centre, to bring affordable fun to Penticton families.
From noon to 2 p.m., families can skate for free with members of the Penticton Vees. Free hot chocolate and coffee, courtesy of Starbucks, are available, and skate rentals are $2, with proceeds going to Penticton Minor Hockey.
At the Penticton Community Centre pool, a swim will cost only $2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., courtesy of sponsorship by FortisBC.
The Penticton Public Library will be closed, but staff is screening a free movie at the Cleland Theatre. “Despicable Me 3” begins at 2:30 p.m.
Marketplace IGA in Penticton is hosting its annual barbecue, by donation, in front of Gate 1 at the SOEC from noon to 2 p.m.
“Quite a bit is going on. We’re super excited about teaming up with Spectra again. This will be our second year doing this,” said City of Penticton recreation coordinator Kelsey Johnson. “Last year, we had about 1,300 people coming through our doors, and we expect to see quite a few more on Monday.”
For those looking to hit the slopes, Apex Mountain Resort is offering 50 per cent off full-day lift tickets when you present your B.C. or Alberta governmentissued ID.
Summerland families can treat themselves to a free skate at the Summerland Arena, 8820 Jubilee Rd., from noon to 1 p.m.
In Oliver, a Family Day neon skate will be held at the Oliver Arena, 665 McKinney Rd., from 1 to 5 p.m. Skaters are encouraged to wear bright colours, and face painting and hot chocolate will be available. Free skate rentals will be provided while supplies last.
In Osoyoos, a disco skate is being held at Sunbowl Arena, 9301 Hummingbird Lane, from noon to 2 p.m.
