Jaden Yamamoto collected 16 points and eight rebounds as the host Pen-Hi Lakers edged Summerland Rockets 42-26 in the South Zone junior girls’ basketball championsh­ip game Saturday.

Both teams advance to the Valley championsh­ips this weekend in Kamloops.

Kayla Hauskas had nine points and point guard Maria Iannone collected eight assists in the hard-fought game.

Karrah Roelfsma scored eight points for Summerland and caused Pen-Hi plenty of trouble under our defensive boards.

The game was tied 20-20 at halftime and no team led by more than two until the fourth quarter. The Lakers led by as many as eight, but the Rockets got back within one with two minutes left.

Sophie Brydon hit a key running lay-up to extend the Lakers lead to six points late.

In the semifinals, Brinay Burdick had 17 points and Faith Hendricks 11 as Summerland beat Keremeos 71-17.

Dylan Copp logged 18 points and Vanessa Herman made a pair of three-pointers and had four assists as Pen-Hi beat Princess Margaret 49-10.

In the third-place game, Cassandra Gibbs logged 15 points (3 three-pointers) and Zoe Friends had eight as Keremeos defeated Maggie 36-23.

Emma Flores and Crystal Krickmeyer scored eight points apiece for the Mustangs.

FEMALE HOCKEY

The Penticton Firefighte­rs Vees won all five of their games to win the bantam division of the Surrey Super Heart Internatio­nal female hockey tournament on the weekend.

In the championsh­ip game, Maddison Fulton scored just seven seconds into 4-on-4 overtime to give Penticton a thrilling 2-1 win over the Tri-Cities Predators. After a scoreless first two periods, Olivia Linton scored early in the third, but the Predators scored late to force OT.

In the opener, Kaitlyn Rempel and Sydney St. Hilaire scored and Rowan Knowles posted the shutout as the Vees blanked the Predators 2-0.

Fulton, Alison Rempel, Amy Berekoff and Gabby Lindsay scored as the Vees doubled North Shore Avalanche 4-2.

Kaylee Bird scored twice as the Vees beat 100 Mile House 6-1. St. Hilaire, Lindsay, Emma Wilson and Emily Oakes also scored for the Vees.

Berekoff scored twice as Penticton defeated the Surrey Falcons 4-1 to earn the berth to the final. Rempel and Amber Wyse also lit the lamp for the winners.

DARTS

The Roll N Stones Alley Brats enjoyed a 20-point week to leapfrog Clancy’s Snipers into top spot in the A Division after two weeks of playoff action in the Penticton and District Dart Associatio­n.

The Alley Brats have 37 points, while the Snipers had a 16-point week and sit second at 37.

Penticton Legion Smokin’ Aces had 14 points to sit third at 29, OK Falls Legion had 17 points to take over fourth place at 27, and Clancy’s Dreggers had 14 points to round out the top five at 26.

In the B Division, OK Falls Legion pounced for a 19-point week to jump from fourth to first at 32. Barley Mill Dirt Bags at 30 and Penticton Legion Arm and Hammered at 27 round out the top three.

Brian Ek, Les Martin and Darren Haftor have produced perfect 180 scores in the playoffs.

NHL to Seattle

SEATTLE — The group looking to bring profession­al hockey to the city of Seattle has formally filed its expansion applicatio­n with the National Hockey League.

The Oak View Group, led by billionair­e David Bonderman and filmmaker Jerry Bruckheime­r, submitted the expansion applicatio­n and $10-million filing fee. If Seattle is successful in its expansion bid, the new franchise would bring the NHL to an even 32 teams.
