Politicians are dividing regions

-

Dear editor: Hi, I am an Albertan that, along with many people I know here, am getting very concerned about how politicians in this country are dividing regions against each other.

The recent decision from the Alberta NDP government to ban B.C. wines is, in my and many others’ opinions, the wrong tactic to take in response to the B.C. government’s decision to restrict bitumen shipments without another study.

I don’t feel that the owners and workers in B.C.’s wine community deserve this.

I also don’t feel that the Alberta oil and gas workers and many other businesses (Canada wide) that make a living in the energy industry deserve what the B.C. government is doing to them.

Politicians and their assistants seem to do nothing anymore in this country but cause trouble and division for their own selfish interests.

I have written to my MLA here demanding that our government reverse this B.C. wine ban immediately and find another way to convince the B.C. government to stop delaying the Trans Mountain expansion project, which has received federal approval after a long process in which many environmental conditions were satisfied.

You may not know this, but at least 58 First Nations groups are in support of the Trans Mountain pipeline project. You may not have heard because the media probably didn’t bother to report on that.

I would hope that someone in B.C. is telling their MLAs to stop blocking the Trans Mountain project, as this is crucial to Alberta’s economy and there are many B.C. residents that have come to Alberta to work in our oil and gas Industry. I have worked with several.

Let’s stop working against each other just because some useless politicians think we should. Phil Becker Adrossan, Alta.
