Advice from Archie Bunker

-

Dear editor: With respect to Donald Trump suggesting that they arm teachers to stop the school shootings, this reminds me of an episode of All in the Family when Archie claims to have a solution for aircraft hijackings. His idea was to give every adult a loaded gun as they board the plane. Complete NRA mentality, if you ask me.

Here’s a couple of more just as brilliant ideas that I came up with all by myself.

Put a 10-foot high wrought-iron fence around all schools with two armed guards at a main gate of the front entrance to the school, and a couple of roving armed guards to patrol the grounds. Install bullet-proof windows and 8-inch thick metal armour-plated doors everywhere in the building. Metal detectors at the gate, the whole nine yards. Just like an airport.

Or, we could go with option B, which would be to issue all students two sets of full body armour complete with Kevlar army helmets.

Of course, I am being sarcastic (it’s my middle name).

I think I can speak for the entire world (with the exception of maybe a few countries) when I say that we are all sick to death from watching America’s children mowed down in their own institute of learning, a place that should be danger free and secure.

The FBI really dropped the ball on this one. There were plenty of warning signs that should have raised red flags, but the bureau failed to act.

It’s pretty sad, National Rifle Association, when the rest of the world cares more about your children than you do. Time to put principle before profit. Mark Billesberger Penticton
