Osoyoos sweeps, Kelowna pushes Summerland to brink of eliminatio­n

While the Osoyoos Coyotes made short work of the Princeton Posse, the Summerland Steam find themselves facing eliminatio­n in their KIJHL first-round playoff series against the Kelowna Chiefs. Osoyoos edged the Posse 4-3 on Tuesday night in Princeton to sweep the best-of-seven Okanagan Division semifinal series 4-0.

Kelowna won its third straight game over the Steam, winning 5-0 at Summerland Arena to grab a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Game 5 goes tonight at 7 p.m. at the Rutland Arena.

Coyotes 4 Posse 3: Hunter Johnson’s second goal midway through the second period proved to be the winner as Osoyoos dispatched Princeton.

Judd Repole and Carter Shannon also scored for the coyotes, who led 3-1 and 4-2 at the period breaks.

Lane French scored twice, with his second coming with only 10 seconds to play. Chad Kimmie had the other goal for the Posse.

Daniel Paul of the Coyotes and Bobby Milligan of the Posse each made 27 stops.

The Coyotes will open at home against the winner of the KelownaSum­merland series.

Chiefs 5 Steam 0: Aidan BarLev-Wise delivered a hat-trick and Brody Dale had three assists as Kelowna pushed the Steam to the brink.

Devin Sutton and Hayden Courtney also scored for the Chiefs, who led 2-0 and 4-0 at the intermissi­ons.

Joseph Mcleod made 23 stops for the shutout and Matt Huber made 28 saves for the Steam.

If the Steam can keep it alive tonight, Game 6 goes Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Summerland.

OTHER SERIES: One other series came to an end Tuesday as the 100 Mile House Wranglers doubled the Chase Heat 6-3 to eliminate the defending Okanagan-Shuswap Conference champs in four straight.

Kamloops Storm stayed alive in the other Doug Birks Division semifinal with a 2-1 overtime win over visiting Revelstoke Grizzlies, who still lead the series 3-1.

In the Eddie Mountain Division, Fernie Ghostrider­s prolonged their season with a 4-3 win over visiting Kimberley Dynamiters, who still lead 3-1; Columbia Valley Rockies won 4-3 in overtime at home against the Creston Valley Thundercat­s to take a 3-1 series edge.

In the Neil Murdoch Division, Grand Forks Border Bruins stayed alive with a 3-1 victory over Nelson Leafs, with the Leafs still leading the set 3-1; Beaver Valley Nite Hawks outlasted Castlegar Rebels 7-6 in Fruitvale to tie that series at 2-2. For the full schedule and results, visit kijhl.ca.
