Lights needed at every crosswalk

Dear editor: It seems almost every day there is talk on the TV news of yet another person killed on a crosswalk, which is an unnecessary tragedy.

Because all drivers these days seem to be in such a hurry, they are unable to see the white lines before it is too late to stop.

So why does this country not follow other countries (namely in the UK) where all crosswalks have red-and-green flashing lights so that drivers can see well ahead they are approaching a sidewalk and hopefully slow down. I am sure this would save many tragedies. Joan Carty
