PLK completes league-playoff A-side double; Theos doubles TC Auto in B final

Penticton Lock and Key survived an early scare to complete the regular season and playoff “double.”

Zico Pescada produced a hat-trick to rally PLK to a 10-7 triumph over Harvey-Lister-Webb in the Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters Indoor Soccer League championsh­ip game Sunday at the Adidas Sportsplex.

Andy Burt and Dave Crompton each scored twice, Paul Borba had a goal and two assists and Vlado Zamecnik and Venna Veselka scored single goals for PLK.

Herb Alex with three, Nathan Larkin, two, and Derrick Webb and Dave Killick with one each scored for HLW.

PLK won all five regular-season encounters, but the upstart HLW squad looked to flip the script by grabbing a quick 3-0 lead and going up 5-2 before PLK tied it at 5-5 at halftime.

With the score tied 6-6, Crompton gave PLK a lead they would not relinquish in the second half and Borba got the eventual winner as PLK finished the season with 15 wins, 1 loss and 1 shootout loss.

Pescada, Burt and Alex were the three stars.

In the B final, Rob Kroeker fired five goals and Norm Peters ran wild with four goals and five assists as Theos doubled TC Auto Sales 12-6.

Carlos Mendonca had two goals and two helpers and Phil Nunes a goal and three assists for Theos, which led 8-1 at halftime.

Joe Kandola with three, Peter Toth, a goal and two assists, and Mike Beliveau and James Fofonoff, with solos, scored for TCA.

Following the games, league awards were handed out over pizza and beverages at Bad Tattoo.

PLK took home the Hometown Cup (regular season winners) and Playoff Cup, led by Most Valuable Player award winner Zico Pescada. Other awards: Leading scorers: Pescada 83, Peters 65, Brian Johnston (HLW) 44.

Goalscorer­s: Peters 43, Pescada 31, Alan Clarke (PLK) 23.

Top assists: Pescada 52, Johnston 25, Zamecnik 24.

Top goalie: Pat Buchanan (HLW).

Top defender: Venna Veselka (PLK).

Top rookie: James Fofonoff (TCA).

Most sportsmanl­ike: Keith Johnstone (Theos).

Biggest Surprise: Alan Clarke (PLK).

Unsung hero: Niko Theodosaki­s (Theos).

Top manager: Harry Higson (Theos).

All-Star Team: Pat Buchanan, Venna Veselka, Tony Dias, Paul Borba, Zico Pescada, Gord McLaren, Peter Toth, Norm Peters, Brian Johnston, Darren Schimpf.
