Time running out to get LNG going

-

Dear editor: It made me shake my head in wonder to watch the grand chief of the B.C. First Nations march with all of the American-sponsored environmentalists to protest the Kinder Morgan pipeline. But I forgot he is originally an American too.

Why would he not want Canada to have another customer to sell our oil to other than the U.S. It surely is not about the environment.

I just finished reading Vaughn Palmer's article online in regards to the BC Investment Management Corporation, which manages pension investments for public sector employees.

Just a thought but possibly Mr. Weaver and Ms. May could also be benefitting from those investments.

BCIMC as of March 26 has increased its investment in Cheniere Energy to 109,417 shares valued at $ 5.9 million. BCIMC has been investing in this company since 2011, about the same time BC Liberals were trying to get LNG pipelines built to tidewater.

During this time Cheniere Energy has built one LNG shipping terminal in Louisiana and has nearly completed a second terminal in Texas.

The first terminal built at Sabine Pass in Louisiana was built in two years from permitting to operation, while in Canada we can't even get the paperwork completed in that time.

The Corpus Christi terminal will be online this spring.

Cheniere is targeting the same markets in Asia that BC LNG could have had and already have a long term deal with China and recently a 20-year deal with India.

The main driver behind the shift to LNG is China trying to wean itself off of coal to switch to cleaner LNG, a fact cited many times by Christie Clark to much mockery from NDP and green opponents at that time.

At the 2013 Aboriginal Business Match held in Penticton, the majority of the First Nations groups attending were in favour of LNG Development and the Proposed LNG pipeline route with some concerns and assurances their people could gain some long term employment and benefits.

We were also told to find out who was behind some of their peoples being funded to protest in Washington, Vancouver, Toronto or San Francisco or wherever the TV cameras were.

I will close with a positive though that could end the bromance between the GreeNDP party: I am glad to see LNG to tidewater is being considered. George Bergquist Penticton
