Far Cry 5 well worth the wait

- SASHA HEIST

Far Cry 5: Rated M for Mature (Xbox One,PC,PS4) Ubisoft made a fantastic decision a few years ago and stopped releasing Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed titles annually. After a few years, we finally have Far Cry 5 and it was worth the wait.

Far Cry 5 is set in the current time period in Montana. You are a Deputy Marshall tasked with helping arrest a cult leader who is taking over Hope County in Montana.

The visuals can be described in one word — fantastic. The animations during cut scenes have a realism that very few games have. This game’s story is the best in the entire franchise. The fact that they managed to create a story that is both disturbing and funny at times is a testament to the powerful writing of the game.

The game throws you into the chaos and infighting of Hope County. At the time of writing this column, I’ve only put in around six hours so far in the game. The story and missions are much improved from the previous Far Cry games.

The game even, at times, makes fun of the previous games by joking about the towers that players needed to be conquer just to see the places around that area. The game even makes some political jokes in the side missions.

I really love the variety of the different side missions and even vehicles that players can access. You not only have cars, trucks, and semis, but also planes, boats and helicopters. The variety makes each road trip a blast.

The game even lets you go fishing with a variety of fish in different ponds and you may hunt local game. One new addition is the ability to play co-op through the entire campaign after tutorial to the end credits. Having a friend join in the carnage is more fun than words can describe. You and a pal can join in the destruction of the cult, go hunting, fishing or any of the fun activities this game has to offer.

Besides your buddy, players have game allies who you can order to attack enemies. These allies can be animals or humans. The animals are great for maintaining stealth and not alerting the rest of the enemies to your presence.

The game’s main antagonist is Joseph Seed with his siblings dubbed “the Heralds” controlling different regions.

The game’s huge map is divided into three different regions controlled by different cult leaders. Each of these leaders has a different power over those below them. Faith Seed, for example, has this magical power over her part of the flock — almost like a drug daze. Each of the different regions require you to liberate camps and do other missions to face off against the region’s boss.

The story is fantastic, the entire Seed family is strangely relatable and even understandable at times. Each boss area feels different as does the way the bosses taunt and interact with you.

Players can use the cash earned to buy weapons, etc. The game will take players about 40 hours to find all the collectibles, etc.

Far Cry 5 offers gamers a creative story set in current United States with tons of things to see and do.
