Summerland needs new chamber boss

The head of the Summerland Chamber of Commerce has handed in her resignation in order to pursue new challenges, the organization announced Thursday.

Christine Petkau is stepping down effective May 4.

“I can honestly say that being executive director for the Summerland Chamber of Commerce for the past six years has been among my most rewarding career experiences,” she said in a press release.

“I have had the pleasure of leading a wonderful staff group and working with caring and knowledgeable board members throughout this time.”

The chamber board is working on plans now to find Petkau’s replacement.

Science fair today at Aberdeen Hall

You can check out the projects of the best student minds in science, technology and sustainability today at Aberdeen Hall School at 950 Academy Way, adjacent to UBC Okanagan.

The public viewing of the 2018 Central Okanagan Science Fair projects is 2:30 p.m. with award winners announced at 3 p.m.

Students will present to judges from 9 a.m. to noon.

Fewer buses with summer break

There will be fewer Kelowna Regional Transit buses on the streets as of April 29.

The revised spring schedule takes into account there are fewer student riders with Okanagan College and UBC Okanagan classes breaking up for the summer.

Frequency will increase again in the fall when students return in September.

However, there will be improved spring and summer service on Highway 97, including better weekday and mid-day service, BC Transit said in a news release.

All schedules, routes and service changes are outlined at BCTransit.com/Kelowna.
