Wild win first two over P.G.

The Prince George Spruce Kings need to figure something out on the long bus ride home or the B.C. Hockey League championsh­ip series will be a short one.

The visiting Spruce Kings lost 40 and 4-2 to the Wenatchee Wild in the first two games of the best-of-seven set, and were outshot by a whopping 80-40 in the process.

Games 3 and 4 go tonight and Tuesday at the Prince George Coliseum.

Game 2 – Wild 4 Kings 2: AJ Vanderbeck scored twice and added two assists and Jasper Weatherby scored his playoff-leading 15th into an empty net as Wenatchee grabbed a strangleho­ld on the series.

Lucas Sowder also scored for the Wild, who led 2-1 and 3-1 at the period breaks.

Blake Hayward scored both goals for the Spruce Kings, who were outshot 34-15 in the contest.

Game 1 – Wild 4 Kings 0: Sam Hesler broke a scoreless tie midway through the second period and Vanderbeck scored 57 seconds later as Wenatchee took the opener on Friday.

Weatherby logged a goal and two assists, Zak Galambos also scored, Cooper Zech had three assists and Austin Park kicked out 25 shots for the shutout.

Evan DeBrouwer faced a 56-shot barrage, and his team was outshot 26-6 in the decisive second period.

Wenatchee is now 14-3 in the post-season.

Both teams are playing in the BCHL final for the first time ever, though the Wild are only in their third year in the league.

The winner of the series plays the winner of the Alberta league final between the Spruce Grove Saints and Okotoks Oilers.

Spruce Grove leads the series 2-0 after winning the first two games in overtime in Okotoks. The Saints are a perfect 10-0 thus far in the playoffs.
