Horgan needs to take stand soon

-

Dear editor: There have been several pipeline pros and cons put forth by individuals from all walks of life. There are still pros and cons being tossed about.

What the real answer is would be anybody’s guess. We all have opinions on this issue. They may be good, bad or indifferent depending on our perspective.

The petty politicking being done by provinces is very unbecoming of a country held in such high esteem by many other nations,

Alberta’s premier has inasmuch said, “You can’t play in my yard, I don’t like you anymore!” Sounds more like a small child admonishing a friend for not playing the game his or her way.

If this continues, the “superior person” says, “I will take my bat and ball and go home.”

That’s more or less where things stand at the moment. The real question is will this child (Alberta’s threatening premier) will run to daddy (Trudeau and Co.) and cry foul? The answer: “Hasn’t this already happened?” There is one major premise that the feds have not openly and clearly dealt with.

That is the fact of what immediate emergency plan is in place to deal with spills, leaks etc. The answer is quite simple. When Trudeau recently visited B.C. he was asked this question point blank. He skirted it quite nicely by saying that “we are working on it!”

Wow! I feel secure in knowing that there is a workable, functional and factual plan in place, don’t you? Our coastline according to Trudeau is in good hands. Sounds like the All-State Insurance commercial: “You’re in good hands with All-State!”

Recently, there has been a half-hearted attempt by the government to allay any fears as to spill/leak problem solution. A token gesture or better yet, a token joke.

Premier Horgan has not yet dropped the gauntlet on Ms. Notley. Who knows when and if that may happen? When and if there is some retaliatory measure put forth, maybe the following might be considerations: No prairie grain shipped from B.C. ports and no Alberta beef allowed to cross the border into B.C. markets.

Premier Horgan is counting on a legal settlement. Failing that who knows what might happen. He will have to take a stand somewhere if he is to retain any sort of credibility as a leader. Ron Barillaro
