5-miler event to debut this Sunday

The annual Peach City Runners Blossom 10-Miler is adding a 5-Miler event starting this year.

Both races — hosted by the Penticton Pounders — will be held this Sunday.

The 10-Miler will start as per usual at 9 a.m. from North Naramata Road (one mile north of Naramata) and finish at the SS Sicamous on Okanagan Lake, while the 5-Miler will begin and end at the SS Sicamous.

The 10-Miler is a rolling, scenic point-topoint course, last two miles downhill and flat.

Two 48 passenger buses leave from the SS Sicamous at 8 a.m. to transport participants to the starting line on North Naramata Road.

The 5-Miler goes up Vancouver Avenue, out along the KVR, turning around at the cemetery and back to the finish line at the Sicamous.

Organizers are seeking more volunteers for the event in the areas of aid station, traffic marshalling, start/finish setup/takedown, bib number pick-up and timing.

Those interested can email Charlie Llewellyn at shecharlie@gmail.com.

Online signup is available through Zone 4 Systems for the 10-mile race. The online registration deadline is Wednesday at 6 p.m. Entry forms are also available from the Peach City Runners at 214 Main St.

The entry fee for both races is $30 with an additional fee of $10 to register on race day.

Refreshments, awards, and draw prizes following race.
