New winery for Osoyoos features futuristic design

Rezoning sought for 4 hectares of property located on 103 Street

Is it a visiting spacecraft from another planet? Or the latest winery proposed to be built in the Osoyoos area?

One thing is for sure: should the development permit be approved, the proposed design of Larose Estate Winery will turn some heads.

The rezoning required for the new winery in Osoyoos received first and second readings at the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen board meeting last week, and it’s scheduled for a public hearing and final approval at the next meeting June 7.

The rezoning is required to convert part of the property on 103 Street in Osoyoos from a resource area to agricultural.

The rezoning covers about four hectares of the property where the silver, futuristic design would be built into the hill.

The area in the application is not within the Agricultural Land Reserve, though a majority of the property is, while the remainder is undeveloped grassland.

A joint venture between Canadian company Vincor and France’s Groupe Taillan, Osoyoos Larose currently hosts the Okanagan’s traditional Bordeaux house.

The partnership was solidified in 1998 with the goal of creating premium Canadian wines.

The land is near Osoyoos Lake with a 32-hectare vineyard, and the new building would host a tasting room with processing area and a loading bay.
