NDP looking to solidify power

-

Dear editor: Normally when an NDP government is elected to govern provincially, they set about with policies destined to injure the economy of that province. This results in a marked reduction in tax revenue for the government and job opportunities for its residents.

There is less money for priority items to include medical, education, and social services.

In the case of John Horgan’s incumbent B. C. government, they have expanded their mandate to include Canada as a whole. Their current policy of blocking an oil pipeline to the Pacific coast to permit sale to world markets reduces government revenue and jobs Canada wide.

It is destroying Canada’s reputation as a country with stable government, which reduces investment further curtailing growth.

Premier Horgan believes he has a mandate to block this pipeline in spite of the fact that over 50 per cent of B.C. residents support it. He did not win the election outright, but got in through the back door with support of three Green Party members, who are equally irresponsible.

Premier Horgan is playing hardball at the expense of all Canadian residents particularly those in B C.

He makes up the rules as he goes along using convoluted logic and ignoring the established division between provincial and federal jurisdiction. It is apparently OK for B. C. to block oil shipments from Alberta through B.C., but not OK for Alberta to cut off shipments of oil products to B.C.

It appears to be Premier Horgan’s stance that we will allow only the shipment of those oil products that we personally need here. This would appear to be gross hypocrisy, but apparently not so. B.C. residents will pay the resulting added costs for gasoline and all other goods shipped into B.C. as a result of reciprocal action taken by Alberta.

Now the NDP and Green parties are proposing to hold a referendum to change the voting system to proportional representation to allow for more Green Party members to be elected. Is that something that we should look forward to in view of what is now transpiring under the current leadership? Claude Bergman Penticton
