RCMP confirm 2 died in Vernon house fire
It has now been confirmed two residents unaccounted for after a house fire near Vernon May 21 did die in the blaze.
Vernon RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service haven't identified the dead.
Besides saying the investigation is ongoing, the police and coroner are releasing no other details at this time.
It was on May 21 about 4:15 a.m. when the police and North Westside Fire Rescue were called to a home in the 300 block of Northern-view Drive.
When they arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames and ended up being completely destroyed.
At the time, it wasn't known if the two occupants were home or not.
Police have been on the scene since investigating.
On Friday, the RCMP announced scene examination was complete and two people were killed in the fire.
“The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing at this time," said Const. Kelly Brett.
"The Vernon North Okanagan GIS (general investigations section) unit will continue to work alongside the B.C. Coroner's Service on identifying the two deceased individuals."
