Forever not for everyone

-

Dear editor: My name is David. I live at the Skaha Sunrise. I was at the city council meeting.

I got up to say something about my place. As I was hearing others who live on Green Avenue speak, I felt they were attacking my home. So I am taking my time to defend my place.

1. When a person states that trash is along the fence, yes, at times that is true. But, think where and who is placing the trash. Do you really think it's coming from the people who are living at Skaha Sunrise?

2. Police and EMS. Law enforcement and EMS do come to Skaha Sunrise, but not every day.

3. School kids that leave the school ground for fast food do not feel unsafe. I don’t see that. In fact, they at times cut through the ground to get to Green Ave.

4. Someone states that when they walk past, they get pushed to the side. Really?

Do you know that Unity House opens at 8 a.m. and many members don’t live at Skaha Sunrise. Don’t forget, kids walk on the same side of the street as Skaha Sunrise and the sidewalk on Green Avenue is not that wide.

I would let Coun. Max Picton know that I am not “an animal” — I’m a mammal.

Now that the city has said no to 52 units, but say they will work to find a better location. What are the odds of finding a better place? They would get a different group of people all saying, “not here.”

They should change Penticton’s motto from “a place to stay forever,” to “not a place for everyone.” David Falls Penticton
