Emergency operations centre closing

-

With much of the spring flood danger having now passed, the region’s Emergency Operations Centre is going into hibernation mode.

The centre, which had been operating for just over two months, had as many as 35 people on staff at one point, although that number had been reduced to just five as of Tuesday.

The doors will close for now on Friday, although the centre is expected to reopen this summer during wildfire season.

States of local emergency remain in effect for Areas A, C, D, E, F and G of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Pockets of homes also remain under evacuation in the Sportsmens Bowl and Green Mountain road areas, Faulder, Olalla, Twin Lakes and Riverside Estates.

Those with sandbags on their properties are advised to leave them in place for at least another week, before disposing of them at a designated drop-off point in their community.
