Lock-in for Love at SPCA

- JOE FRIES

If you’ve ever wanted to see me behind bars – and I know there are a few people who have – you’ll get your chance today. Between 10 and 11 a.m., I’ll be locked up at the Penticton branch of the BC SPCA to help raise money for animals in need.

Called the Lock-in for Love, myself and nine other local animal people will be stuffed in a kennel with residents there while we work the phones and social media to collect donations.

As the proud owner of a rescue dog from the BC SPCA, I jumped at the chance to help.

Some readers will recall our family dog, Buddy, crossed the rainbow bridge in November.

Much to our surprise, it was only a couple of months later that we began to miss having a dog around.

Enter Goldie.

The eight-year-old was seized by the BC SPCA earlier this year and found to have cancer. My family has decided to make the last phase of her life the best it can possibly be. She is a terrific dog and has brought a lot of joy to our home – even our cat has accepted her!

That’s mainly because Goldie prefers to snooze away her days on our front porch and brings new meaning to the term “lowmaintenance.” Nonetheless, she’s been a delight.

The BC SPCA is an organization very close to my heart and I hope you will join me in speaking for those like Goldie who cannot speak for themselves. Your gift will help rescue more than 22,000 animals this year.

If you’d like to donate to the Lock-in for Love, please email me at editor @pentictonherald.ca, call me at 250-4924002
