An insult to the deceased

-

Dear editor: Is it more important to get in a last lick at a foe? Or honour him in death!

I am trying not to believe your online newspaper would have such an agenda in the writing of the following article by Joe Fries.

Headline: Hedley politician Christensen passes away.

Under that a picture of RDOS Area G Director Elef Christensen

Under the picture is a line that is so political, it was clearly an insult to the deceased Elef Christensen. I will not repeat as to not give it any further merit. It was also brought up again later in the article. I am certain his grieving friends and family ditto your cold-hearted approach to a man’s life, service and accomplishments.

Elef was a family man with a loving partner, children and grandchildren and friends around the world. He was an important member of the Hedley community and worked hard for everyone in Area G. Very little effort was put into this article and does not reflect his dedication and the many positive things he accomplished.

What it does reflect is the views of the writer and the newspaper. The announcement of his death and the story of his political choices should never have met. Would another more favoured politician receive a more civil, compassionate send off?

Bad form! Douglas Bratt

Hedley Editor’s note: The photo cutline to which Mr. Bratt refers states: “RDOS Director Elef Christensen’s expenses cost each of his Area G constituents $5.55 last year.” The cutline was attached to the photo on June 21, when it accompanied a story about Christensen claiming the highest expenses among all RDOS directors. No offence was intended.
