-

In 2017, Canada’s unemployment rate dipped to its lowest level in more than four decades. According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate in Canada dropped to 5.7 per cent in December 2017, marking the lowest the rate since comparable data was made available in 1976.

Choosing a profession requires careful consideration of several factors, and professionals should consider the importance of finding work in growth industries that can provide them with rewarding careers for years to come.

Indeed Canada, an online job board and career resource for Canadian professionals, notes that the following jobs figured to be in high-demand in 2018.

• Fulfillment associate: Fulfillment associates receive and process orders at e-commerce distribution centers, so it’s no surprise that such positions are more in-demand at a time when a growing number of consumers shop online.

• Machine learning engineer: Indeed Canada notes that job postings for this job title experienced 150 per cent growth in 2017. Machine learning engineers work in the field of artificial intelligence, or AI.

• Family medicine physician: Life expectancies are on the rise, so the healthcare industry is a great place for workers looking for long-term job security.

Indeed Canada notes that family medicine physicians are highly sought after in an industry that is in high-demand.

• Manufacturing technician: Though they might not be as in-demand as fulfillment associates or family medicine physicians, manufacturing technicians, who install and maintain products and systems, are popular. Indeed Canada discovered that job postings for this particular position increased by 45 percent in 2017.

• Technical recruiter: The tech industry is booming across the globe, as technology continues to play a significant role in daily life. Technical recruiters are professionals who help tech companies find employees, and Indeed Canada found that postings for these positions increased by 25 per cent in 2017.
