Trudeau behaving like hypocrite

-

Dear editor: As much of Canada swelters under the dog days of summer, the Prime Minister’s Office swelters under allegations of Justin Trudeau having groped a female reporter in Creston, B.C.

The incident was editorialized in Creston's local paper 18 years ago when juvenescent Justin was a teacher; since recently resurfacing from the archives, the story has cast our completely self-absorbed, self-righteous and selfie-obsessed PM in a most uncomplimentary light.

The reporter has now issued a statement asking to remain anonymous, but her name has since been published, and the PM has changed his story so often that many Canadians are rightly concerned about a cover-up.

While not comparing what he did, or didn’t do, with U.S. presidents who were impeached, or on the verge of being impeached, for telling lies, there are indeed Clintonian and Nixonian reverberations about Mr. Trudeau's ever-changing recollections.

The Watergate adage, ”It’s not the crime, but the cover-up,” comes into play when the PM says that he did absolutely nothing wrong, while acknowledging that the female reporter may have an entirely different perspective.

Those are his latest choice in a long list of weasel words, but it may be perception rather than perspective that is going to haunt him.

Remember Lee Atwater said, “In politics, perception is reality,” while working as a strategist for President George H.W. Bush back in the 1980s, when our PM was but a young pup.

The word “schadenfreude” comes to mind, when Mr. Trudeau staked his reputation on being so absolutely virtuous and pious on the feminist front, having a zero-tolerance attitude for members of his own caucus. Several MPs were hurriedly cast aside at the mere hint of sexual impropriety, and without due process in most cases.

Apparently he made an awfully lame apology the day after the alleged groping incident in 2000, but now he appears to be a highly hypocritical head honcho. Bernie Smith
