Candidate pledges to ‘shake up’ City Hall

- By Penticton Herald Staff

Marie Prior wants a seat on Penticton city council to “shake up the status quo,” says the retired cognitive behavioural therapist. Prior announced her candidacy last week. In a press release, Prior said she is a person of integrity and a “hard-hitting champion of social justice.” She is a long time Pentictonite, who has worked 25 years as a banker and 20 years as a cognitive behavioural therapist. She said she is an approachable communicator and an ideas person.

If elected, Prior’s top priorities are social housing, services for seniors and policing and communicating with the public.

“I’d like to explore solutions and implement modular and pre-fab units where feasible,” said Prior.

She also recognizes that the senior population in Penticton is going to increase substantially and adequate services need to be there for them.

She shares residents’ concerns with the negative social issues happening downtown.

“I will work in co-operation with the police to improve life conditions particularly in the downtown area with better response and more respectful communication,” she said.

Prior is married to Gerry and has two grown sons and four grandchildren.

The couple wrote an advice column that was published in The Herald earlier this year.
