Lost on Mars doesn’t live up to the hype

- SASCHA HEIST

Far Cry 5 was my favourite first-person shooter game out this year. With an amazing environment, great story and solid combat, it was definitely a must for firstperson shooter fans.

Ubisoft has released a new DLC (downloadable content) pack that should keep Far Cry 5 gamers busy.

Lost on Mars is sadly a missed attempt on introducing a new planet with the Far Cry mechanics. The DLC pack has a bunch of issues that warrant a pass from gamers.

The game has the player dropped on Mars and tasked with finding shards that will reactivate the computer system that will protect the Earth from an alien invasion.

The game has some humorous lines from your robot companion called Hurk. The dialogue can be funny at the start, but will quickly turn to painfully annoying.

The missions are basically rinse and repeat. You have to find towers, climb them and activate the terminal. You do this around the small map.

Another mission type is finding the bug queen and killing her to get the shard she is holding.

You have to do this over and over again, through the five-hour campaign. There is little to keep the player interested other than completing it to see what happens.

The map itself is sparsely inhabited. I realize it’s Mars, but there could have been some cool buildings or alien architecture to explore.

Instead, the same towers are recycled over and over again. The price tag of $14 is low enough if you’re looking to extend your Far Cry 5 game or you already own the season pass.

The weapons are fun with interesting names like the nut puncher. Besides some lasers and bouncy bullets for weapons, you do have a jetpack. The jetpack will let players hover over enemies to give the ability to get out of trouble. Those weapons would be interesting if they could carry over into the main game.

I just felt that I wanted more — more enemy types, more things to do, and more cool places to explore. Sadly, after completing the entire five hours, I can not recommend the DLC unless you already own the season pass.

Instead of recommending the DLC, players should replay the regular campaign or pick up Far Cry 5 for the first time to see what all the hype is about.

Look for my review of No Man’s Sky on the Xbox One in next week’s edition of OkanaganWeekend.
