Baseball needs to speed up game

-

Dear Editor Like you Fred Trainor, I am a fickle and whining fan of the Toronto Blue Jays (Okanagan Weekend, Aug.4).

They are a frustrating team to watch and how they lose some games is mind blowing. Anyway, I still enjoy the sport, but offer up some suggestions on how to improve the game and make it even more pleasurable to watch.

It would seem that efforts are constantly under consideration to speed up the game. One option might be to eliminate the managers amble out to the mound to change pitchers. If a pitcher has run out of steam, a simple hand signal from the manager ought to suffice.

Another opportunity to save time might be to eliminate velcro straps on batting gloves. It’s annoying to watch a batter continually fooling with his gloves.

Now, how about improving the appearance and actions of the players themselves? Silly haircuts, including man buns, (Russell Martin, what are you thinking?) excessive facial hair, gold chains from the bygone disco era would be areas to improve decorum.

Not to sound completely out of left field, there must be a way to reduce the need to chew. My jaw gets sore just watching these guys chawing away. How about crotch grabbing or the constant flow of spittle?

All actions and behaviours we could do without.

Me thinks I might protest too much. I shall shut up now. Paul Crossley Penticton
