Accused in home invasion to undergo psychiatric tests
Osoyoos woman, 45, charged after allegedly lunging at young mother with knife
A provincial court judge has ordered a psychiatric assessment of the 45-yearold Osoyoos woman accused of walking into another woman’s home, asking to see her baby and then lunging at her with a knife.
Sharon Constance Forner appeared in court Friday, facing charges of assault with a weapon, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Judge Michelle Daneluik ordered Forner be detained in custody at the forensic psychiatric facility in Port Coquitlam to determine if her mental condition at the time of the offences makes her exempt from criminal culpability.
Forner appeared with dishevelled, shoulder-length black hair and was emotional in the prisoner’s box for her brief appearance in Penticton court.
She will be back in court Sept. 5, appearing by video from the Port Coquitlam facility.
Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, a young Osoyoos mother of two, one just a newborn, saw a woman wearing a long black wig and yellow dish gloves walk into her home, saying she wanted to see her baby.
According to Osoyoos RCMP, the mother managed to push the woman out of her home. That’s when the suspect allegedly rushed back in, pulled out a knife concealed in her waistband and lunged at the mom.
Police said the mom managed to push the woman out the door a second time and lock it before calling 911.
The bizarre interaction was caught on the homeowner’s video surveillance camera. While police initially recognized the suspect, they were unable to locate her on Wednesday. She was arrested Thursday in Osoyoos and has remained in custody.
