Summerland council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 to address items that require consideration prior to the regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 24.

Due to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities conference in September, the meeting customarily held on the second Monday of the month is cancelled.

As a result, district staff are facing an unusually large backlog of work which, combined with the cancelled meeting, necessitates holding a special session.

Of particular note, the removal of trees in the Woodbridge Preservation Area in Trout Creek will be on the agenda.

Following numerous complaints, staff are gathering information regarding removal of the trees.

“Upon initial review, it appears that no permission was granted by any district staff although the representative from the tree removal service has documentation from a contractor that stated he had received district approvals,” chief administrative officer Linda Tynan told council Monday.

“Details of this investigation will be presented to council once received,” Tynan said.

The first draft of the cannabis bylaw is also on the agenda.

Other items to be considered include the quarterly financial report, several development services reports, and permissive tax exemption for Unisus International School and church properties with excess land.
