Robinson Property

Council supported a planning and engagement process for The Robinson property located on 2905/2983 South Main Street, where the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-in Centre is located. The planning process will identify issues, challenges, opportunities and potential solutions for the Robinson property, in keeping with community vision, compliance with original land agreement and Park Policies. Council request that staff provide an opportunity, early in the process, for new groups to express interest in the property in addition to consulting the established user groups.

Downtown Enforcement

CAO Peter Weeber presented Council with an update on the results of this summer’s downtown enforcement. While homelessness and drugs continue to be an issue, the City has made great efforts to abate the situation through needle clean-up, parks cleanup and vandalism, additional bylaw and private security services as well as extra funding for RCMP overtime patrols. The See-Something, Say Something Campaign encourages citizens to report suspicious activity while alterations to bench seating, clearing shrubbery, and the installation of security lighting are working well to discourage long term loitering. Current / future development and partnership with BC Housing will assist in the demand for low income, family housing and shelter beds to those in need.

Official Community Plan Update

Residents are invited to see how Penticton’s future is shaping up at a series of upcoming open houses. The Official Community Plan Task Force is ready to share the draft policies and land use plan that will guide future development.
