Twin Lakes crowns senior men’s champs

Larry Thompson and Gerry Nimchuk were the big winners at the Twin Lakes Golf Resort senior men’s club championsh­ip.

The 36-hole event wrapped up on Tuesday with Thompson taking the overall low gross at 151 and Nimchuk logging a 130 to capture the overall low net.

Thompson also had low net in Flight A at 65 in the second round on Tuesday, with Bob Biro second at 67.

In Flight B, Alex Wilson came out on top at 61 with Don Affleck second at 65. Nimchuk followed up his opening-round 62 with a 68.

In Flight C, Lou Brulotte prevailed by countback after finishing tied at 70 with Doug Coulter and Grant Olsen.

Biro, Dave Myles, Alex Wilson, Larry Syskakis, Ron English and Bob Cartwright had deuces.

BASKETBALL

Lake City Basketball is running fall training sessions for boys in Grades 4-8 starting next week.

“We’re really aiming to build the game from the ground up and get more young players participat­ing,” said Lake City head coach Chris Terris.

Marnie Mennell, a teacher-coach from Summerland, and Raj Dhillon (former Princess Margaret Mustangs and UBC-O player) are running the sessions.

Grades 4-6 will have nine one-hour training sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. at Okanagan College. The cost is $79.

Grades 7-8 will have ten 90-minute training sessions Mondays from 4-5:30 p.m. at Okanagan College. The cost is $99. Athletes must bring their own basketball. Registrati­on is now open. Visit lakecityba­sketball.weebly.com to sign up.

SOCCER

Andy Burt scored twice to help Summerland to a 3-2 victory over Beasley FC in Capri Okanagan 16th holes during the Penticton Golf & Country Club ladies’ “tee to green” outing on Tuesday.

The format for the event was the gross score, less number of putts, less half the handicap.

Peggy Sheridan topped the first flight (0-23 handicap) with a net score of 45, with Viv Mohoruk second at 50 by countback.

In the second flight (24-plus handicap), it was Pat Fleming at 50 with Marilyn Wiens second at 54.

• There was also a hole-in-one at the Summerland Golf and Country Club ladies’ day “stableford” competitio­n Tuesday.

Carol Mulligan delivered the ace on the par-3, second hole.

Pat Stohl topped the first flight with 36 points followed by Cjrostoem Jasseog at 35. Lanett Graham, Linda Brussee and Vi Ward tied at 34.

Kathy Larkin and Betsy McAndrew tied for top spot in the second flight at 36 with Barb Oleschuk third at 34. Oldtimers’ 55-and-over soccer league play at Dale Meadows Park.

The ageless Harry Higson also connected for Summerland, in eighth place at 4-9-3.

Peter Butler and Lloyd Pendleton clicked for Beasley (1-13-1).

In action tonight, Penticton travels to Summerland for the much anticipate­d local “derby” matchup at 7 p.m. at Dale Meadows.

A key game has Raiders and Brown Benefits 55 — tied for first place on 36 points — clashing at Mission Sports Fields.

BOWLING

Lori Hood and Bob Biro were on point in the opening night of Monday Night Mixed five-pin bowling league play at the Roll N Stones Fun Centre.

Hood swept the ladies’ high single of 283, high fourgame of 955 and high average of 239.

Biro had the men’s high four-game of 966 and high average of 242 to help Team Biro to the team high single of 875 and high four-game of 3,251.

Mike Elder notched the men’s high single of 304.
