Three Knights and a Tenor

-

Singing the music of three knighted British composers and musicians prompted Canadian tenor Ken Lavigne to come up with an cheeky name for his new touring show.

Three Knights and a Tenor will play in various Okanagan communities next month.

The show features Lavigne singing the music of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John.

Combining a classical/show tune composer with two pop stars isn't such an odd combination to Lavigne, who sees connections between the three.

McCartney began writing simple three-chord pop songs, but evolved into working with the London Symphony, he explained in a news release.

Elton John incorporated piano into mainstream rock and Webber created monumental works that are now nostalgic pop favourites such as “Cats” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

“It was extremely difficult to choose because all three are extremely prolific and they have a mountain of work,” Lavigne said.

“The conclusion is you want to include them all, but you can’t. I’ve decided to weave them into a medley, with some pieces that will stand alone."

Three Knights with a Tenor, which includes a small ensemble, comes to Summerland on Thursday, Oct. 11, Penticton on Oct. 12, Vernon on Oct. 13, Kelowna on Oct. 14 and Lake Country on Oct. 15.
