Workshops added to fringe fest
The Taste of Fringe night coming to the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna on Sept. 22 will also host three professional development workshops prior to the event.
The workshops will take place Wednesday to Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at UBC Okanagan.
“Our hope is that locals will come out to the workshops and be inspired to create outstanding shows of their own for Kelowna’s first ever Fringe Festival in 2019,” said festival co-ordinator Melina Moran.
The workshops on Wednesday and Thursday are titled How did you get here? and will be three-hour immersive experiences in physical storytelling with Cathy Stubington (Runaway Moon Theatre) and Neil Cadger (Department of Creative Studies, UBCO). Participants are asked to bring two or three small objects of personal significance.
Melanie Gall, an internationally renowned Canadian vocalist who has earned rave reviews at fringe festivals around the world and recently sold out her entire Edinburgh Fringe run, will be running the Friday workshop.
The topic for the evening is Building a Solo Show: Turning your story into theatre. Gall’s workshop will look at the performance and business sides of putting on a one-person show.
She will be performing at A Taste of Fringe as Red Hot Mama.
The workshops are complimentary, but registration will be required due to limited seating.
