Vocalist excited about SOEC show

- By MELANIE EKSAL

Seether will be taking the stage at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Oct. 23 and the band’s guitarist and backing vocalist, Corey Lowery, knows this show in particular is going to be a good one.

“The 23rd is my favourite day,” he said in a phone interview. “I was born on the 23rd (of February), so every month I celebrate (it).”

Celebrations aside, Lowery is excited to tour Canada because the band is currently writing songs for a new album. As he says, Seether is “looking for inspiration from Canada,” a country that has always rocked out hard at their previous shows.

Some of their hits include “Let You Down,” “Broken,” which features an appearance from Amy Lee (of Evanescence), and “Remedy.”

As Lowery stated, it’s because the band has always taken an “organic” approach to music that they have come this far throughout the years.

He also couldn’t say enough about lead singer Shaun Morgan, who Lowery has been playing with since joining the band earlier this year. An avid guitar player his entire life, Lowery has played with several bands in the past, including Saint Asonia – Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace’s newest band – and says that playing with Morgan has been the “best that’s out there.”

“Shaun’s vocals really carry,” Lowery said. “He’s a true teller when it comes to lyrics. He really puts it all out there and shows that vulnerability, and it takes a lot of courage to do that.”

He also described their music and song writing as a time to “purge demons” in a genre of music that is really viewed as a “rebellion art.”

Seether will be playing alongside bands Default, Age of Days, and headliner Stone Temple Pilots, all of whom Lowery said he has met throughout the years and is excited to reconnect and tour with.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Dean (Dean DeLeo, lead guitarist of STP) again – it should be a good one,” he said with a laugh.

Tickets for the show are on sale now at the SOEC box office and start at $42.50.
