Coyotes halt lengthy winless skid

After having their winless streak extended to 11 games on Friday, the Osoyoos Coyotes emerged with an overtime win against a quality team to halt the freefall on Saturday.

Ryan McDonald scored with 1:23 left in the second overtime as the Coyotes turned back the Columbia Valley Rockies 4-3 at the Sun Bowl Arena.

The Coyotes looked set to win in regulation until Gavin Fleck tied it for the Rockies with a power play goal with 1:48 to play.

Peter Michailide­s, Seth Kriese and Bryson Garska also scored for the Coyotes (2-10-1), who overcame a 2-0 deficit after one period.

Connor Davison and Connor Woodworth also scored for the Rockies (9-3-0-1), who outshot the home team 43-38.

Sicamous 3 Coyotes 1: Goals by Colton Yaremko, David Cloutier and Jordan Sheasgreen gave the Eagles a win over visiting Osoyoos.

Brock Marple scored for the Coyotes in the third period. Sicamous (5-7-1-2) had a 53-28 edge in shots on goal.

The Summerland Steam, meanwhile, swept a two-game road trip on the weekend.

Steam 3 Beaver Valley 2: Cory Loring, Tyson Conroy and Liam McLaren scored as Summerland built a 3-0 second-period lead and held on to beat the Nite Hawks in Fruitvale.

Ryan Crisalli and Paul Leroux replied for the Hawks (8-6-0-1), who had a 27-26 edge in shots on goal.

Steam 5 Spokane 4: Cory Loring’s second goal of the game 3:50 into the third period broke a 44 tie and helped the Steam nip the Braves.

Linden Gove, Morey Babakaiff and Mitchell Gove also clicked for the Steam, who outshot Spokane 4934. Aaron Morris with a hat trick and Alex Energren scored for the Braves (6-5-0-2).

Chiefs 7 North Okanagan 3: Lane Paddison had a hat trick and KIJHL runaway scoring leader Brody Dale logged three helpers as Kelowna stayed undefeated in regulation with a win over the Knights at the Rutland Arena Saturday.

Devin Sutton, Jordon Woytas, Ryan Stack and Zach Erhardt also lit the lamp for the Chiefs, who are 14-0-0-1 and lead the league with 29 points.

Jeff Saharchuk, Jordan Smith and Cole Haberlack scored for the Knights (2-10-0), who fell behind Osoyoos for the worst record in the division and league.

Kelowna outshot North Okanagan 43-22. Dale now has 46 points, including a league-best 17 goals.

The Steam (8-6-0-1) are in second place in the Okanagan Division with Princeton (7-5-0) sitting third.

Princeton visits Summerland in a key midweek game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Steam visits North Okanagan and 100 Mile House, while Osoyoos goes to Spokane and Princeton on Friday and Saturday.
