Donations of coats, boots, blankets or snow pants greatly appreciated
Spring cleaning is so six months ago — it’s time for fall cleaning, which comes with a great cause to help those in need in the community.
The South Okanagan Real Estate Board is encouraging the community to donate warm clothes and blankets for their Cover with Kindness blanket drive, which begins Wednesday and runs until Nov. 23.
A number of real estate offices, alongside Pen-Hi’s and KVR middle school’s leadership clubs, are also involved in the cause, which will see to donation distributions on Nov. 27-28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Saviour’s Anglican church hall.
“While it’s sunny and warm now, it’s not going to stay that way,” said Lyndi Cruickshank, a director with the SOREB.
“The more warm clothes we can collect — coats, boots, snow pants and blankets — the better.”
Pamela Hanson, also a director with the SOREB, recalled how quickly snow pants and winter jackets went last year — especially for children and men.
“There were maybe four pairs of snow pants for men,” she said. “I’m sure somebody has a pair of snow pants that don’t fit them anymore.”
The program, was begun nine years ago by the Penticton Soupateria Society and which SOREB has now taken over, will have donation drop sites throughout the Okanagan, along with one at Apex Mountain.
KVR and Pen-Hi will have an area for donation dropoffs, as well as Re/Max locations in Penticton, Summerland and Osoyoos.
