Please respond to Shape Your City

-

Dear Editor: Could everyone please go to the Shape Your City Penticton website and give some feedback on the new official community plan.

We have until the end of the month to respond. After that it goes to council. My chief concerns are “urban residential” along Main Street and Skaha Lake Road. Those buildings will go up to six-and-a-half storeys. Given the planning department’s past record, they will give developers variances for higher and density. I believe those buildings should be kept to four storeys and no more, so that the rural vista is maintained and they fit with what is already in the area.

I am against the designation of towers planned for across from Walmart. They block the view of the hills and add too much density to the area. I would like to see better quality construction and attractive architectural value in new buildings, unlike some ticky tacky, poor-quality tenement buildings that have been built in the past few years. If you agree, let them know. The more voices, the better. Here is the website: www.shapeyourcitypenticton.ca/

Go to the OCP section. Then check the future land use map. Scroll up and down the map and you can see what will be built close to you. Then give them some feedback. Remember that anything labeled “urban residential” is six-and-a-half storyes in height. Kathy Corbett Penticton
