PR offers better democracy

-

Dear editor: Proportional Representation voting reform is now at the forefront for us to decide about what kind of democracy we want today.

We already see the first past the post supporter via “he who runs the show,” Andrew Wilkinson as a partisan leader. He wants the old first past the post-corrupted system. Then he can invest in swing ridings to gain ridings to help form government with only 40 per cent of popular vote over all. That’s a nice way of saying: eliminate 60 per cent of votes.

No one likes that old system, and perhaps that is why there is no grass roots movement on the ground to support keeping FPTP in place. A far more-respected and supported governing body is formed with a decent democratic representative voting system in place.

Please see prorepfactcheck.ca for factual information about proportional representation voting reform. It’s a great view to help democracy facilitate integrity.

Why would the Liberal leader fight so hard against a better democracy, a democracy that would serve party policy better? Advocating support for a known antiquated, compromised voting system is the wrong path, I think.

I think a few wealthy people are doing our country a big disservice by causing people to simply follow Wilkinson’s lead down the exact wrong road.

Only FPTP supporters have big money to apply scare tactics ads. Pro Rep people want a return to ethical behaviour. The old system has evolved into what we see today; extremism. Extremists don’t care about people, they care only about looking good in the short term.

Those unethical disasters unfolding before us these days are much of the cause of our deteriorating society.

Democracy by proportional representation would be the best police force to repair the old FPTP debacle. Remember: prorepfactcheck.ca. David R. Derbowka
