Manning not done with politics quite yet

-

Despite losing her seat on the Okanagan Skaha school board after 16 years on the job, Ginny Manning is not entirely out of politics.

The Regional District of OkanaganSimilkameen announced that Manning will be the Area I (Kaleden/Skaha West) alternate director to Subrina Monteith for the next term.

Manning, first elected to the school board in 2002, lost her job as rural trustee in the Oct. 20 election, falling to Kathy Pierre by 11 votes.

The alternate director, chosen by the elected director and with the consent of two residents, participates only in the absence of the elected director.

Other alternate directors ann-ounced this week were: Terry Schafer, Area C (Rural Oliver); Tom Styffe, Area D (Okanagan Falls, Skaha East); Tim Cottrill, Area G (Hedley/Olalla); Linda Allison, Area H (rural Princeton), Judy Sentes, (Penticton); Erin Trainer, (Summerland); Martin Johansen, (Oliver); CJ Rhodes, (Osoyoos); Jason Wiebe, (Keremeos); and Barb Gould, (Princeton).

Several other area directors have yet to announce their alternate.

Doug Holmes, who topped the polls for Summerland council, has been appointed as the second RDOS director to represent the district. Penticton will be represented by Mayor John Vassilaki, Jake Kimberley, Frank Regehr and Julius Bloomfield. City council's decision was based on how the candidates finished in the polls.

The inaugural RDOS meeting and swearingin ceremony, along with the vote for chair and vice-chair, takes place today at 3:30 p.m. at the office at 101 Martin St. in Penticton.
