Kimberley steals one from Steam

Brock Palmer and the Kimberley Dynamiters power play snatched a victory away from the Summerland Steam.

Palmer scored the tying goal with 10 seconds to play and bagged the winner with 1:02 left in overtime as Kimberley rallied for a 7-6 victory in KIJHL action Saturday at the Summerland Arena.

The Dynamiters scored six of their seven goals on the power play – including the last three in the late stages. Trailing 6-4, Cam Russell scored with 2:06 to play to start the comeback.

Keegan McDowell, Brandt Bertoia, Jackson Bohan and Braiden Koran also scored for the high-flying Dynamiters (19-3-0).

Morey Babakaiff with two, Everett Scherger, Zack Cooper, Cory Loring and Tyson Conroy scored for the Steam (13-9-1-2), who were outshot 41-23.

The Steam came away with three points in two games after winning 4-1 over visiting Sicamous on Friday, while the Osoyoos Coyotes tied Princeton Posse in their only game.

Kelowna Chiefs remained undefeated in regulation (20-0-1-2) after home wins over Kamloops and Chase.

SATURDAY – Coyotes 1 Princeton 1: Brandon Della Paolera’s goal in the second period hoisted Osoyoos to the tie in Princeton.

Quin Garrison scored in the first period for the Posse, who outshot Osoyoos 43-37.

The two teams are tied for third place in the Okanagan Division each with 18 points from 21 games.

Chiefs 10 Chase 1: The KIJHL’s three top scorers were at it again as Kelowna routed the league’s worst team.

Brody Dale had two goals and four assists, Zach Erhardt scored twice and Devin Sutton had a goal and three helpers as the Chiefs led 4-0 and 7-0 at the period breaks.

Dale leads the league with 66 points, Erhardt has 50 and Sutton 48. Chase fell to 4-15-2.

FRIDAY – Steam 4 Sicamous 1: Goals by Babakaiff, Conroy, Scherger and Cody Swann led Summerland past Sicamous.

Colby Sherlock scored for the Eagles (7-12-2-2), who outshot the Steam 28-24. The Steam led 3-0 and 3-1 at the intermissi­ons.

Chiefs 3 Kamloops 0: Myles Mattila scored twice and Shane Zilka made 28 stops for the shutout as Kelowna beat the Storm.

Sutton also scored while Dale was limited to just one assist.

UPCOMING: Osoyoos hosts lastplace North Okanagan Knights Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena.

On Friday, 100 Mile House visits Summerland at 7:30 p.m., while league powers Revelstoke Grizzlies (18-1-0) and Kelowna clash for the second time this season, this time at the Rutland Arena. In the first meeting, the Grizzlies edged the Chiefs in overtime.

On Saturday, Revelstoke visits Summerland in a 7:30 p.m. start.
