Johnston’s 5 sparks HLW

Brian Johnston’s drive for five was too much for Theos in Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters Indoor Soccer League play Sunday at the Adidas Sportsplex.

Johnston collected five goals and added an assist as TC Auto Sales rode a nine-goal second half to a 14-6 victory over Theos.

Ben Cougny had a hat-trick, Peter Toth tallied two goals and two helpers and Carlos Mendonca also scored twice as TCA blew open a close 5-4 game at halftime.

James Fofonoff and Charley Mayer also found the scoresheet for the winners.

Gord McLaren bagged four goals in a losing cause, Paul Borba had a goal and three assists and Nikos Theodosaki­s also bulged the onion bag for Theos.

Alan Clarke scored twice and Derrick Webb tallied a goal and three assists as first-place Harvey-Lister-Webb beat Penticton Lock and Key 6-3.

Ron Dirksen, Jerry Goncalves and Nathan Larkin also connected for HLW, who led 4-1 at halftime.

Zico Pescada, Peter Ruocco and Andy Burt replied for PLK.

HLW leads the way through five rounds of play with four wins and a shootout loss for 13 points. TC Auto jumped into second with 9 points, PLK has 7 and Theos has 1.

Pescada still leads the scoring race with 11 goals and 20 points, with Johnston and Toth of TCA tied for second at 14.

In games this Sunday, HLW plays Theos at 10 a.m. and PLK takes on TC Auto at 11:10 a.m.
