Tommie finalists revealed

Annual Thompson-Okanagan awards to be handed out Jan. 29

Candel Custom Homes, Bercum Builders and Ian Paine Constructi­on heard their names called out more times than any other nominees at this week’s Tommie finalist ceremonies.

Candel, Bercum and Ian Paine each received six silver Tommies from the Central Okanagan branch of the Canadian Home Builders Associatio­n at a finalist reception at the Laurel Packinghou­se in downtown Kelowna.

A silver trophy is also a finalist spot in one of 35 categories for the gold Tommies, which will be handed out at a gala on Jan. 29 at Kelowna’s Delta Grand hotel.

Candel was recognized with three nods for West Coast Casa, two for Country Club Estate and one for Villas at Waterside.

West Coast Casa is a luxurious, 4,900-square-foot, contempora­ry, lakeview home in Black Mountain with wow kitchen, living room and master bedroom.

The three West Coast Casa nomination­s are in the best single-family detached home worth $1.5 to $2 million, best master suite and best interior design categories.

The Country Club Estate silvers were in the best showhome worth $500,000 or more and best singlefami­ly home worth $500,000 to $750,000 categories.

The Villas at Waterside nod was in the best semidetach­ed or townhouse developmen­t category.

“The success of the Tommie Awards couldn’t happen without a strong and supportive industry,” said Tommie chair Kevin Santos, a partner at Grant Thornton accountant­s and consultant­s.

“The awards’ continued success is a testament to the tireless efforts and dedication of the Canadian Home Builders Associatio­n, which works every day to promote and showcase world-class projects and communitie­s in the Central Okanagan.”

Bercum’s six nomination­s include two for Boomerang Bay, a $5-million-plus waterfront home, and one each for an $80,000-plus kitchen renovation, from-drab-to-fab bathroom renovation, the Copperhill home worth $500,000 to $750,000 and marketing.

Ian Paine’s six nods are for four renovation projects (two worth $400,000 or more, one for less than $100,000 and a kitchen reno of more than $80,000) and two for a certified-custom home worth under $500,000 at Kettle Valley.

The six-times nominated firms, were closely followed by Timberhave­n Homes, Bergrand Fast Design, Gibson Contractio­ng and Sunterra Custom Homes, which each had six nods.

The Tommie award takes his name from Thompson Okanagan.
