Food bank a big help to local family

-

Editor’s note: The following is a first-person account by an individual who is helped by the Salvation Army food bank, the recipient of this year’s Be an Angel campaign. To donate, visit the Herald’s office at 101186 Nanaimo Ave. W. between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or visit www.pentictonherald.ca.

When I first moved to Keremeos, I needed furniture badly as I had moved from a small mobile home into a house.

At the time, I couldn’t afford to go and buy a lot of new furniture for my family. I was told by people in Keremeos that The Salvation Army gave out vouchers for furniture, and so I used them to get what I needed.

At Christmastime, I went to the food bank and was able to get a turkey and stuffing and what I needed to make a Christmas dinner for my family.

We are just finding that food is so expensive now, and the food bank and thrift stores make it so I am able to give my three kids and two grandchildren healthy food and the extras that kids want.

We live in Penticton now, and what I really love about the food bank in Penticton is that I can go any day and get bread. It is always there — all kinds of bread.

I can just walk in and take what I need, and if I need something else, I can just ask and they will do what they can to provide for me — no questions asked.

They have all kinds of food — everything a family needs — and it has helped me and my family so much.

What I really love about the food bank in Penticton is that I can go any day and get bread. Anonymous
