STANLEY FRASER LEAMING

Passed away peacefully in Penticton, BC on December 10, 2018 at 101 years of age. Stanley is survived by his children Ruth (Vincent Galante), Chris (Linda), Charlotte, and Catherine Harris (Nick). He also leaves his granddaugh­ters Vita and Oliva Galante, Samantha (Dustin Murao) and Kelsi Leaming, his step granddaugh­ter Madison Wejr, and great granddaugh­ter Milia Murao. He was predecease­d by his wife Kathleen and two younger siblings. Stanley was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on September 6, 1917. As a young man, he enlisted in the Canadian Air Force and served overseas in WW II as a radar technician. When he returned to Canada, Stan obtained his Master’s Degree in Geology and conducted geology field work in several Canadian provinces before settling in BC where he met his future wife Kathleen Spall. The young family made their home in Kamloops before moving to Richmond for Stan’s position with the Geological Survey of Canada. Stan’s work on the geology of BC jade led to an internatio­nal reputation and widespread acclaim for his expertise. Following their retirement, Stan and Kathleen settled in Summerland. The family extends sincerest thanks to the staff of Haven Hill Retirement Centre who provided attentive and compassion­ate care to Stan for the past six years.
